Introduction

We build IR quartz halogen heating lamps specifically for blow molding machines. These are not general-purpose heaters; they are engineered to deliver high heat density in a compact footprint for PET preform heating and parison conditioning. The design targets rapid thermal response, stable output, and straightforward integration into existing machine frames.
Technical Deep-Dive: Power, Voltage, and Dimensions
The core of these lamps is a shortwave infrared halogen element housed in a quartz tube. Typical configurations run at 400V and deliver 2500W in a 300mm length. This power density is necessary to raise preform surface temperature quickly without over-running the cycle. A 400V rating reduces current draw compared with lower-voltage alternatives, which keeps the wiring runs smaller and lowers voltage drop across long machine layouts. The 300mm length is a practical compromise. It gives enough emitting area to cover the preform shoulder and body while staying within the tight spacing around the blow station. Shorter lengths can create hot spots; longer lengths may not fit the reflector geometry. We spec these lamps to match the reflector envelope so the heat pattern lands where the process needs it.
Material and Design: Quartz, Halogen, Coating, and Connectors
Quartz is the envelope material because it transmits shortwave infrared effectively and withstands thermal shock. When the lamp cycles on and off, the quartz tube takes the temperature swings without cracking, which matters on machines running 24/7. The halogen cycle keeps filament performance stable over life. It reduces blackening of the inner tube, so output stays consistent instead of tailing off after a few thousand hours. In blow molding, consistent output means repeatable heating, and repeatable heating means fewer rejects. Many lamps also use a gold coating on the quartz. This coating reflects infrared back toward the target and reduces wasted heat that would otherwise heat the machine frame. The result is more usable energy directed at the preform, which helps shorten warm-up time and lowers the load on the machine’s cooling. For mounting and wiring, we fit the lamp with an R7s connector. It provides solid contact, handles the operating temperature, and makes the lamp a drop-in replacement on standard holders. Some blow machines use Sk15 connectors; we match that interface when required so you can wire it up without modifying the harness.
Application and Benefits in Blow Molding
In blow molding, the heating window is short and the tolerance band is tight. The lamp must bring the preform to the right temperature profile fast, then hold it steady while the blow pins move. Our IR quartz halogen lamps respond quickly because the filament reaches operating temperature almost immediately, giving you predictable control over the heating curve. This configuration also simplifies maintenance. The R7s or Sk15 end-fittings allow a fast swap when a lamp burns out, minimizing downtime. The high power density in a short 300mm tube keeps the overall footprint small, so you can fit the heater into crowded stations. A realistic trade-off: packing 2500W into a 300mm tube produces significant heat. The machine’s cooling and airflow must be spec’d to manage the ambient temperature around the lamp and reflector. If the cooling is undersized, the lamp and nearby components run hotter, which shortens service life. Match the lamp power to the machine’s thermal design, and you get stable output, easy installation, and consistent part quality.
