The Nitty-Gritty on Power We went with 1500W to make sure you get a serious punch of heat per inch. But we kept it at 220V for a reason. It keeps the current draw under control so your wiring doesn’t start cooking while the lamps are running. You’ll usually see these in industrial drying or curing lines. Basically, anywhere you can’t afford to wait around for things to warm up. Why Halogen? Here is the secret: the halogen cycle. Normally, a filament eventually wears out. But by circulating halogen gas inside that quartz tube, we actually put the evaporated tungsten back onto the filament. It’s a clever little loop that lets the lamp run way hotter than your average light bulb without burning out. One big warning, though.Keep your fingers off the glass. Seriously. Oils and fingerprints create hot spots. Those spots lead to cracks, and then you’ve got a broken lamp. Handle them with care. Getting Them Into Your Setup These are pretty easy to swap into most short-wave IR arrays. Whether you’re blowing PET bottles, welding plastic, or curing paint, they get the job done. But remember, 1500W is a lot of energy in a tiny space. Don’t skimp on your cooling fans. If you don’t vent the heat properly, you’re going to fry your reflectors or toast your circuitry. Also, do yourself a favor and use high-temperature leads for the wiring. You really don’t want your insulation melting right at the terminals.
