
Getting the Heat Right: The 870mm 1700W Quartz Halogen Heater
When you’re trying to hit a specific temperature, you can’t just throw heat at a problem and hope for the best. You need a sweet spot—enough power to get the job done, but not so much that you’re just burning electricity for no reason. That’s why we built the 870mm 1700W lamp. It sits right in that middle ground between your basic infrared heaters and those crazy high-intensity shortwave systems.
The Build and the Burn
We’ve spread 1700W across 870mm of length. Why? Because it gives you a steady, even line of heat. The tube itself is high-purity quartz. We use this because the heat is intense. If we used cheaper glass, the tube would warp or buckle under the pressure. With quartz, it stays straight and your heat footprint stays focused. It’s a big deal for anyone dealing with materials that warp or cure unevenly. Nothing is more frustrating than a ruined batch of product because of a “cold spot” in your heater.
The Magic of Halogen
Ever notice how some bulbs turn black over time? We stopped that from happening here. We fill the tube with halogen gas, which creates a little cycle. As the tungsten filament heats up, the gas pushes the evaporating tungsten right back onto the filament. It keeps the tube clear. This means your wattage stays stable for thousands of hours. Plus, the quartz glass is basically invisible to infrared light—it lets the heat fly straight through to your workpiece without soaking it up. And since we use standard industrial connectors, you won’t be fighting with the wiring. You just plug it in and go.
Real-World Use (And a Few Warnings)
You’ll see these things everywhere—blowing PET bottles, curing automotive paint, or running industrial drying lines. They usually slide right into most medium-wave systems without any fuss. But, a word of caution: 1700W is a lot of heat. If your housing isn’t built for this kind of load, you’re going to melt your plastic components or trip your thermal cut-offs. Also, keep an eye on your power supply. Halogen filaments have a “cold-start” spike—a sudden surge of current the moment you flip the switch. Your system needs to be able to handle that kick. One last thing: give the ends of the lamp some breathing room. If there’s no ventilation around the connectors, they’ll burn out. Keep them cool, and the lamp will keep working.
