
Getting Your PET Preforms Just Right with Golden Reflection Lamps
If you’ve ever dealt with automatic air injection blow molding, you know the struggle. If your heat isn’t perfectly even, your bottle walls end up wonky—too thick in some spots, too thin in others. It’s a headache. That’s why we use golden reflection halogen lamps. They give you that intense, concentrated heat you need to soften the preform quickly without the guesswork.
The Magic of the Gold Coating
Here’s the thing about standard quartz lamps: they’re wasteful. A lot of the heat just leaks out the back of the tube, warming up your machine frame instead of your plastic. We fixed that by adding a gold-colored reflective coating to the back of the quartz. Instead of escaping, the infrared radiation bounces right back toward the preform. It’s a simple tweak, but it makes a huge difference. Your cycle times drop, your energy bills stay lower, and your cooling fans don’t have to work nearly as hard.
The Hardware Side of Things
These lamps pull a lot of power because automatic lines don’t wait for anyone. To make sure things stay stable, we use R7s or SK15 connectors. They lock in tight, so you don’t have to worry about them vibrating loose while the machine is humming along at full speed. Plus, the quartz glass is tough enough to handle the brutal temperature swings. But a quick word of caution:watch your specs. Make sure your voltage and wattage match your power supply exactly. If you pop in a lamp with a higher wattage than your transformer can handle, you’re just asking for a premature burnout.
Real-World Use (and a few traps)
In the oven, these lamps send out shortwave IR radiation. It’s the best way to get heat deep into the plastic fast. This means you won’t end up with a scorched outer shell and a frozen core. Just keep in mind that the gold coating makes the lamp itself run hotter. If your airflow is blocked or your cooling system is a bit weak, your sockets might start to overheat. And please,keep those reflectors clean. Dust is the enemy here. Once that golden surface gets dirty, your efficiency tanks. You’ll find yourself cranking up the heat just to get the same results, which only wears out your lamps faster.
